(Oct. 2, 2000) — The 12th-ranked University of Kentucky defeated the Auburn Tigers, 3-1, on October 1, at the Auburn Soccer Complex. The Wildcats improve their series lead to 5-2 and have won the last two meetings between the teams. The game will be broadcast on College Sports South on Friday, Oct. 6, at 3 p.m. ET.
Kentucky (10-1, 3-0 SEC) could not find the goal in the first half, but were able to hold the Tigers to only one goal. For Auburn, (9-3, 0-2 SEC) Tammy Waine scored in the 21st minute, with assists from Ginger Sellick and Gretchen Winter. The Wildcats are 2-1 in games where they have trailed at the half, and 2-0 when they scored second.
The second half proved more fruitful for the Cats as they did not allow Auburn to score and Kentucky netted three goals. UK goalkeeper Beth Wells had two saves in the match.
In the 59th minute, Erin Witchey notched the first goal for the Wildcats, her first collegiate goal. Emily Oetjen and Alli Haeussler assisted on the goal.
The second goal, and game winner for Kentucky, came in the 70th minute as Kara McCue put one between the posts off an Elizabeth Ramsey pass.
McCue and Ramsey came back again in the 71st minute to assist Annie Gage in her sixth goal of the season.
Kentucky will next face conference foe Florida at the UK Soccer Complex on Friday, Oct. 6, at 7 p.m.
