Atlantic Coast Conference power Duke was chosen by the editors of Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook as the publication’s preseason No. 1 team while the Wildcats ranked ninth nationally. Also at the top of the rankings, Arizona, which returns all five starters, ranked No. 2, followed by another Pac-10 power, Stanford, in the publication’s annual Top-40 rankings. Rounding out the top 10, Maryland is No. 4 followed by defending national champion Michigan State, Kansas, Illinois, Tennessee, Kentucky and North Carolina.
Blue Ribbon is celebrating its 20th anniversary with a special 20-player All-Blue Ribbon Team, which will beannounced in the next week. Blue Ribbon editors also chose the 20 most significant games, events, rulechanges, etc. in college basketball in the last 20 years.Blue Ribbon will be available by mail order in late October by calling 1-800-828-HOOP (4667). The bookwill also be available in early November in bookstores throughout the U.S.
