The 12th-ranked University of Kentucky women’s soccer team will travel to Evansville to face off against the Purple Aces on Saturday, Sept. 23, at 2:30 p.m. ET at the Arad McCutchan Stadium.
The series is tied at 3-3-1 with the two teams splitting the series last year. The Wildcats (7-1, 1-0 SEC) are 5-1 against Great Lakes Region teams this season.
“Evansville always gives us a great game and is a difficult place to play,” UK coach Warren Lipka said. “Coach Lyon’s teams are always competitive, well-organized, and disciplined. This will be a good road test to see where we are.”
Evansville (5-3-1, 1-0 MVC) is coming off a 3-0 shutout of Eastern Illinois. In nine games, the Purple Aces have recorded four shutouts. One of the shutouts was recent UK opponent Miami (Ohio), though two games later, Evansville was blamked by Cincinnati, 1-0. Kentucky shutout Cincinnati in the Wildcats’ season opener, 2-0. Kristin Prom leads the Purple Aces with six goals and 13 points. Evansville goalkeeper Beth Csukas has eight goals against her, 46 saves, and a goals against average of 0.88.
The Wildcats are on a five-game win streak, their latest win a 2-1 victory over Miami (Ohio). In the game, Annie Gage broke the school career assists record with 20. Gage now is tied for second in the SEC in assists (6).
Keri Boyce scored the game-winning goals in the games against Miami and Xavier and leads the squad in goals (6), points (17) and shots (40). Boyce is in the top four in the SEC in points, goals and assists. Elizabeth Ramsey also has played well and is third on the team in points with 11, just one point behind Gage.
Kentucky leads the SEC Eastern Division. The staunch Wildcat defense has allowed only six goals and 16 points to lead the league this season in both categories. Goalkeeper Beth Wells continues to perform well, leading the conference in shutouts (3), and is second in goals against average (0.73). The Cats lead the SEC in shots and are second in points, goals, and assists.
