The University of Kentucky men’s soccer team travels to Asheville, N.C., to takeon the UNC Asheville Bulldogs on Monday, Sept. 4 at 2 p.m.
UK (1-0) is coming off a spectacular win over Louisville at the new Cardinal ParkSoccer Stadium on Sept. 1, a victory that did not come easily. The Cats fell behind earlywhen the Cards scored in the ninth minute. Not until Brook Pearse knocked the ball inthe net off an Ilkka Jantti free kick just before the half did UK take control. Then,midway through the second half, J.D. Stephenson netted the game-winner with goodfootwork and a blast just outside the reach of the U of L goalkeeper.
UNCA (0-1) enters the contest after dropping a close one to the Pirates of EastCarolina on Saturday, Sept. 2. The Bulldogs got on the board first with a goal by ColinBarnes, but could not hold off the Pirates, who subsequently scored to send the gameinto overtime where they notched the game-winner less than four minutes into the extrasession.
The Cats lead the overall series with the Bulldogs, 4-0-0. In 1999, UK won 3-0 asChris McDaniel scored his first two collegiate goals to assist the Cats’ effort.
