(Aug. 28, 2000) — University of Kentucky women’s soccer player, sophomore Keri Boyce has been chosen Southeastern Conference Player of the Week the league office announced on August 28.

In the first week of play, Boyce scored the game-winning goal against Vanderbilt on Sunday, Aug. 27 in the second sudden death overtime, as well as another goal in that game, as the Wildcats defeated the Commodores 3-2. She also charted an assist on the game-winning goal in the Cincinnati game on Friday, Aug. 25 in which Kentucky shut out the Bearcats, 2-0. This marks the third time in two seasons that Boyce has been recognized for her outstanding play by being named Player of the Week.

“This was a team effort, for Keri to receive this honor, and it is a nice way to begin the season,” said University of Kentucky coach Warren Lipka.

The win over Vanderbilt catapulted Kentucky to the top of the SEC standings, while Florida fell to third in the conference.

The Wildcats will travel to Minneapolis to participate in the University of Minnesota tournament on Sept., 1-3. UK will face Minnesota on Friday, Sept. 1 at 8 p.m. EST at the Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium.
