The University of Kentucky women’s soccer team will face Southeastern Conference foe Vanderbilt on Sunday, Aug. 27 at the UK Soccer Complex at 1 p.m. Vanderbilt leads the series 4-10.

UK (1-0) shut out Cincinnati, 2-0, on Friday, Aug. 25 to capture its first win of the season. Junior standout Annie Gage, a 1999 All-SEC first team pick, scored her first goal of the regular season off a Keri Boyce assist. Gage and Boyce were two-time SEC players of the week in 1999 and Boyce was an All-SEC second team pick. Elizabeth Ramsey netted the second goal from ten yards out. Ramsey, who broke the record for assists with 11 in 1999, scored off an assist from Dee Slupski. UK goalkeeper Beth Wells recorded her first shut out of the regular season as she faced only one shot from the Bearcats, due to the strong Kentucky defense.

“We look forward to taking the field against Vanderbilt on Sunday,” said Coach Warren Lipka. “We still have to work on a few things, but this will be a good game.”

Vanderbilt (1-0) shut out Tulane on Friday, Aug. 25, and is led by midfielder Michelle Bruntlett, who notched two goals and two assists in the game. Other Commodores scoring were Katie Stegall, Jennifer Lewis, and Kat Carroll. Vanderbilt posted a 9-10-1 record overall in 1999 and went 6-3 in the SEC, tying for fourth place in the conference.
