The University of Kentucky women’s soccer team has begun its preseason practice with student-athletes arriving on Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000.
Veterans and newcomers alike participated in fitness tests on Friday and Saturday, supervised by strength coach Heidi Robertson. Of the fitness tests, Robertson said, “I am very pleased with how the girls dedicated themselves to training this summer and in the off-season.”
“Everyone reported in good shape and there are no major injuries to date. Lauren Russell did suffer a mild ankle sprain today, but otherwise, no injuries,” said Head Coach Warren Lipka.
Practice is running smoothly, due to the effort the team put in during the summer, which made the athletes fit and ready to compete. The squad is practicing every day at the Soccer Complex, preparing for the exhibition match on Sunday. Daily drills and strength conditioning help the players develop their skills and prepare them for the rigors of the sport.
“The freshmen are coming in and fulfilling our expectations. They are challenging the veterans and performing well,” said Lipka.
The Cats meet Purdue in an exhibition match this Sunday, Aug. 20, at the UK Soccer Complex at 1 p.m.
