UK defense holds high-powered NIU attack scoreless.

(November 1, 1998) — The University of Kentucky men’s soccer team claimed another Mid-AmericanConference win in its regular season finale on Sunday, topping Northern Illinois2-0 at the UK Soccer Complex.

Brent Rainey provided the Cats’ offense, scoring two goals, and the stingy UKdefense held the high-powered NIU attack scoreless. UK goalkeeper Chris Westrecorded two saves as the Huskies were shutout for only the second time thisseason.

With the win, UK improves to 11-8 and 7-1 in the MAC. UK also finishes theregular season as MAC runners-up and clinches a No.2 seed for next week’sMAC tournament.

The Wildcats return to action on Friday against a yet to be determined MACopponent in the conference tournament. The tournament will be held at the UKSoccer Complex and kickoff for Friday’s game is set for 8 p.m.
