CINCINNATI, Ohio – The University of Kentucky rifle team defeatedXavier 6164-6101 in a dual meet at Xavier University in Cincinnati.

Kentucky outscored Xavier 4635-4573 in the smallbore and 1529-1528 inthe air rifle to secure the victory.

“We usually don’t shoot very well on Xavier’s range,” UK coach HarryMullins said. “We really performed well today. Especially with this being thefirst match after the Christmas break.”

Owen Blakemore paced the Wildcats with a first-place finish in thesmallbore and a second-place finish in the air rifle. Kentucky took four of thetop five spots in the smallbore with Mike Boggs finishing third, Mary Elsassfinishing fourth and David Fowler finished fifth.

UK also performed well in the air rifle by taking three of the top five spots.Elsass took third and Boggs took fifth.

The Kentucky rifle team will be back in action two weeks from now at theWithrow Invitational at Murray State University.
