SPRINGFIELD, Missouri — The University of Kentucky women’sbasketball team lost its second road game of the season, as SouthwestMissouri State posted a 74-54 win over the Wildcats Friday night.

Down only nine points at halftime, the Wildcats attempted a comeback earlyin the second half, but pressure defense from the Lady Bears led to a 16-0Southwest Missouri State run. Southwest (2-0) forced 30 Kentuckyturnovers and allowed UK (0-2) only nine second half field goals. Five LadyBears scored in double figures, led by junior guard Yen Quach who posted21. Wildcat junior Tiffany Wait led Kentucky with 18 points and four assists.Senior Kim Denkins added nine points for the Wildcats.

“Our defensive pressure was great tonight,” Kentucky coach BernadetteMattox said. “It was our offense that did not execute. Our post people didnot do their job and we simple stopped ourselves tonight.”

Kentucky continues its season-opening five-game road trip next week as theWildcats travel to Lansing, Mich., for a Nov. 25 match-up with MichiganState before traveling to Lincoln, Neb., to play in the Nebraska ThanksgivingTournament.
