EAST LANSING, Mich. (Nov. 25, 1997 ) — The University of Kentucky women’sbasketball team lost its third consecutive road game on Tuesday 71-57 todefending Big Ten champions Michigan State.
Tied at halftime 31-31 the Spartans (2-1) caused the Wildcats (0-3) tocommit 27 turnovers in the game putting Michigan State ahead in the all-timeseries, 2-1.
“Obviously I am not pleased with tonight’s performance,” Kentucky CoachBernadette Mattox said. “Our turnovers were self-induced turnovers andthey have been haunting us for the past three games. We are going to have toget in practice and get them corrected.”
Junior transfer Jaye Barnes led the Wildcats with 17 points and fiverebounds. Freshman Laura Meadows contributed 12 points, five reboundsand four assists and junior guard Tiffany Wait followed in scoring with eightpoints.
Four Michigan State players posted double figures as Kristen Rasmussen ledall scorers with 19 points and nine rebounds.
Kentucky will end its five-game road series on Nov. 28-29 when it travels toLincoln, Neb., to participate in Nebraska’s CableVision ClassicThanksgiving Tournament. The Wildcats will face Illinois-Chicago at 3:05p.m., on Friday, Nov. 28 before host team Nebraska faces Stetson at 5:05p.m. Consolation and championship rounds will be played on Saturday,Nov. 29 at 1 and 3 p.m., respectively. The Wildcats will return home onTuesday, Dec. 3 against Ohio State at 7 p.m.
