Kentucky running back Michael Daies, a last-second signee bycoach Bill Curry, rushed for a career-high 92 yards and BrianJohnson kicked a 26-yard field goal in the fourth quarter as theWildcats notched their first win of 1996, 3-0, over the IndianaHoosiers.
It took a little bit of luck and some solid defense for theWildcats to prevail. Steady Indiana placekicker BillManolopoulos missed field goals from 43 and 29 yards and runningback Alex Smith (155 yards rushing) was contained in the redzoneby the Wildcats. Daies and fellow freshman Tim Couch provided aspark for the Wildcats.
Both teams had numerous scoring opportunities but could notcapitalize. Kentucky amassed 226 total net yards on offense; theHoosiers registered 262 yards.
