Theriault nets first UK hat trick in eight years.

(Oct. 1, 1999) — The University of Kentucky men’s soccer teamsnapped its three-match losing streak in grand fashionon Friday night, blasting Marshall 6-0 at the UKSoccer Complex.

UK forward Marc Theriault netted three goals for theCats to notch UK’s first hat trick since 1991. Theriault’s three goals were thefirst of his career, as the sophomore found the nets in the 37th, 43rd and65th minutes.

Tyler Cook, Brent Rainey and Lee Baker also scored for the Cats and JasonBell tallied a trio of assists as UK opened Mid-American Conference playwith a win.

Kentucky had scored only one goal in its previous three matches, but wastedlittle time scoring on the Herd as the Cats recorded four goals in the first half.UK continued to dominate play throughout, holding a 21-4 shot advantagefor the match.

UK goalkeeper Brian O’Leary recorded two saves and was rarely tested ashe posted his third shutout of the season.

UK moves to 5-3, 1-0 MAC on the year, while Marshall falls to 3-6-1,1-1-1 MAC.

The Wildcats return to the pitch on Sunday, when they travel to Ohio to takeon MAC rival Bowling Green at 2 p.m.
