Men’s soccer posts a 28-3 shot advantage and stays perfect in conference play.
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 15, 1999) — The University of Kentucky men’ssoccer team upped its Mid-American Conference to 4-0on Friday, topping Buffalo 2-0 at the UK SoccerComplex.
After a scoreless first half, UK’s Giovanni Fernandes blasted a 20-yard shotpast the UB keeper in the 47th minute to give the Cats a 1-0 lead. LeeBaker then iced the Cat win in the 63rd minute, heading in an Antti Peltonencorner kick to push the final margin to 2-0.
UK completely dominated the Bulls, holding a 28-3 shot advantage in thematch.
Wildcat keeper Brian O’Leary needed only one save to post his fifthconsecutive MAC shutout and extend his conference scoreless streak to 488minutes.
“This is a big win,” UK Coach Ian Collins said. “We’re half-way throughMAC play and we’re right where we wanted to be. Now we just have to getready for Sunday.”
Sunday brings UK’s toughest MAC challenge to date, as conferenceco-leader Akron travels to Lexington for a first-place showdown. Kickoff isset for 3 p.m.
