Cardinals hand Cats 2-0 defeat.

(Oct. 24, 1999) — The Louisville Cardinals scored an upset win over the University ofKentucky men’s soccer team on Sunday, topping the Cats 2-0 at the UKSoccer Complex.

Louisville’s first goal came at the 18:29 mark off a free kick. UL’s StuartLangrish struck the kick off UK’s defensive wall, and as the ball ricochetedback toward the midfield, Langrish kicked the rebounding ball into the UKnets to give the Cards a 1-0 lead.

The Cats continued to press throughout the match, racking up a 12-6 shotadvantage, including a blast by Brent Rainey which hit the UL post late in thefirst half.

After UK removed most of its defenders and went into an all-out attack,Louisville’s Greg Campbell netted a final score at the 84:58 mark to ice theCardinal win.

With the victory, the Cardinals move to 6-6-2, while the Cats fall to 9-5-1.UK returns to Mid-American Conference play on Friday, Oct. 29, when theCats travel to DeKalb, Ill., to face Northern Illinois at 3 p.m.
