Seniors Tiffany Wait and Katie Vieth along with junior Laura Meadows have received the honor multiple times.
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 29, 2000) — Four University ofKentucky women’s basketball players were namedto the Southeastern Conference Academic HonorRoll, Commissioner Roy Cramer announced onTuesday.
For the fourth consecutive season, senior TiffanyWait joined the SEC’s Academic Honor Roll. Waitis completing her second year at UK’s School ofPharmacy and holds a 3.19 grade-point average.She averages 9.5 points per game and is only eightpoints shy of becoming the Cats’ sixth all-timeleading scorer.
Senior Katie Vieth and junior Laura Meadows bothreceive the honor for the second straight season.Vieth, who charted a perfect 4.0 GPA last semesterand was named to the UK Athletics’ DirectorHonor Roll, has a cumulative GPA of 3.50 in artstudio. She is a 6-3 center for the Wildcats. Sheplans to work on a master’s degree at UK aftergraduation in sports administration.
Meadows is a psychology major with the teams’ highest GPA of 3.84. She iscurrently the Cat’s second leading scorer (11.4 ppg) and third leadingrebounder (6.1 rpg). In addition, Meadows was also named to the SEC’s”Good Works Team” which honors a member of each school who givesback to their community.
Senior Natalie Martinez is a first-time recipient of the award. The 5-6 guardis a political science major with a 3.42 GPA. She averages 4.2 points pergame and leads the team in three-point field goal percentage, nailing at leastone three-pointer in four straight games. Martinez, who will begin work on amaster’s degree in political science at UK in the fall, hopes to one day be thefirst female of governor of her home state New Mexico.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must have a 3.0 grade-pointaverage for either the past year or a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher fortheir career. He or she must be a sophomore or higher in terms of academicclassification and have 24 semester or 36 quarter hours toward a degree.
