Everett, Pumphrey, Stein, Trahan will swim for the Wildcats in 2000-01.

LEXINGTON, Kty. — The University of Kentucky swimming coach Gary Conelly announced thesigning of four athletes during the fall signing period. Vanessa Everett,Jenaca Pumphrey, Kelli Stein, and Kendra Trahan have signed to swim for theCats in the 2000-01 season.
“It is the best freshman class that we have ever recruited on the women’sside, especially during the early signing period,” Conelly said. “Three ofthe four have Senior National cuts and I don’t think we’ve ever had threein one class before.”
Everett, a native of Charlotte, N.C., is a freestyle specialist fromMecklenburg Aquatic Club and is coached by Pat Hogan. Everett, high schoolAll-American from Providence Senior High, is Senior National qualifier inthree events including the 200-yard freestyle (1:51.02), 500 freestyle(4:51.50), and 1,000 freestyle (10:00.50).
Pumphrey is a backstroker hailing Wichita, Kan., where she swims for theWichita Swim Club, the same club team as current UK freshman swimmer CodyNath. Pumphrey is a three-year letterwinner for the Wichita Heights HighSchool and an academic All-American.
Stein, a native of Columbus, Ohio, is a Senior National qualifier in thebreaststroke from the Greater Columbus Swim Team coached by Steve Nye. Atthe 1999 Spring Senior National Swimming Championships, Stein scored atop-16 finish in the 100 breaststroke.
Trahan is a versatile breaststroker out of Lafayette, La., where shecompetes for the City of Lafayette Aquatics. Owns Senior National Cuts inthe 100 breaststroke (1:04.79), 200 breaststroke (2:18.59), and the 1,650freestyle (17:11.00).
“We are really excited about how well we did,” Conelly added. “The factthat we still have quite a few kids to recruit for the spring signingperiod makes the potential even greater. I think we are going to have anoutstanding class.”
