ATHENS, Ga. — Senior Carlos Drada defeated No. 13 Cary Franklin of Illinois at the NCAA Singles Champinships at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex. Senior Johan Hesoun lost in the round of 32 to No. 10 Justin O’Neal of Florida.

Drada pulled off the outstanding win over Franklin in three sets. Dropping the first set, 7-5, Drada came back in the second, 6-4, to tie the match at one-all. The third set was forced to a tiebreaker with Drada coming off victorious, 7-6(4). Drada (26-20) advances to the field of 16 on Saturday, when he will take on Andres Pedroso of Duke.

Hesoun fell to O’Neal, 6-4, 3-6, 7-5. Hesoun lost the first set, 4-6, but won the second, 6-3. In the final set of the match, Hesoun led O’Neal, 5-2. Hesoun could not hold on to the led, however, and dropped the match in the third, 5-7. Hesoun finished his career with an overall record of 67-57 in his four years at Kentucky.

The field of 16 matches and quarterfinals begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
