LEXINGTON, Kty. – Eight University of Kentucky track and field athletes were named to the2000 Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll Tuesday by conferenceCommissioner Roy Kramer.
Seniors Liz Attig and Beth Burkett represent the women’s team. Attig, asecondary education-mathematics major from Aurora, Ohio, leads the team inthe 1,500-meter run this season. Burkett, a nutrition and food sciencemajor from Imler, Pa., is currently fourth in the SEC in the javelin with athrow of 150-05.00, a toss that also won her top honors at the Texas Relays.
For the men’s team, senior Jeff Limpert leads the way. The naturalresource conservation and management major currently ranks third in theconference and 13th nationally in the 800 meters. A native of Cleveland,Ohio, Limpert has provisionally qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track andField Championships.
Junior Andrew Vander Wagen, a pharmacy major from Downer’s Grove, Ill., isUK’s leading high jumper. Vander Wagen’s best jump of the season, 6-10.75,is tied for 10th best in the SEC. Sophomore Joe Varney is the Cats’ topdiscus thrower. The art education major from Cincinnati, Ohio achieved aseason-best throw of 155-06.00.
Also earning honors were sophomore Jason Greenfield (marketing, Nashville,Tenn.), sophomore John Morgan (political science, Lexington, Ky.) andjunior Barry Pronold (chemistry, Waukesha, Wis.).
