The Wildcat tennis team lost to No. 8 Louisiana State, 5-2, on Friday night at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex. LSU won the doubles point and four of the six singles matches.
In singles action, Daniel Kiernan clinched the match with a win over sophomore Gustav Pousette, 6-2, 1-6, 6-1. Pousette forced the match to a third set, but could not pick up the win at the No. 3 position. Johan Hesoun, ranked 82nd nationally, retired in the third set at the No. 1 position, due to an injury, giving No. 21 Michal Chmela the win, 6-2, 3-6, 6-5. At the No. 5 spot, Johan Grunditz earned a win for Kentucky when No. 100 Ed Rubin retired, 7-6, 3-6, 2-2.
Louisiana State won two of the three doubles matches. The doubles team of Johan Hesoun and Edo Bawono earned Kentucky’s only doubles victory, defeating Ed Rubin and Anthony Mateljan, 8-6, at the No. 2 spot.
The Cats will play their final regular season match on Sunday at noon at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex.
