BROWN SUMMIT, N.C. – The Lady Kat golf team moved down one place despite shooting a spring season low round of 307 at the Bryan National Collegiate on Saturday. Four of the five Kentucky golfers moved up in the standings.
The biggest move of the day came from freshman Marie Allen, who tied her previous low round score, shooting a 3-over-par 75 in the second round to move her from 61st place to 40th. She also shot a 75 in the third round of the Kiawah Island/Oak Point tournament in November 1999.
Also moving up the individual standings was freshman Rachel Lester, who shot a 4-over-par 76 to move her 13 places from 43rd yesterday to 30th today. She is now tied with junior Jenny Throgmorton, who shot a 6-over-par 78 on the second day of action.
Along with Allen, Lester and Throgmorton, sophomore Towa Okiyama also improved her place. After shooting a 6-over-par 78, Okiyama moved into 36th place. Sophomore Kristen Pepe fell one spot into 62nd place, despite improving on her mark from yesterday, a 7-over-par 79 in the second round of play.
In the team standings, Indiana shot an incredible 288 in the second round, replacing Friday’s leader Wake Forest in the first place position. Wake Forest is now in second place, shooting a team score of 302 in the second round. Yesterday’s individual leader, Marta Prieto of Wake Forest, also moved out of the lead and into sixth place. Marcy Newton of North Carolina took her spot, shooting an even-par 72 on the second day of the tournament.
The final day of competition begins Sunday morning with a shotgun start at 8:30.
