INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Five members of the University of Kentucky swimming anddiving team earned honorable mention All-American status Friday night at theNCAA Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships.
Junior Carrie Knoeber, competing in her first NCAA championship meet, recordeda score of 462.20 on the 3-meter diving event to finish 14th, earning honorablemention All-American honors.
“I thought she did an excellent job considering her performance on the firstday,” UK diving coach Mike Lyden said. “To come back and dive they way she didwas admirable. Being just 10 points from finishing in the top eight, showedthat she really belonged at the meet.”
UK’s 800-meter freestyle relay comprised of Annabel Kosten, Melissa Olson,Carolyn Rader, and Kelley Miller, finished 12th with a time of 8:11.23 to earnhonorable mention All-American status. This is the third consecutive year thatUK’s 800 freestyle relay has finished in the top 16 at the NCAA Championships.”I am really proud of the girls,” UK swimming coach Gary Conelly said. “Theydid a great job of competing tonight. Carolyn’s split was exceptional and gaveus a lead. Kelley anchored the relay and closed out her career anAll-American.”
With the Cats’ strong performances on Friday, UK is now 30th overall in theteamstandings with 13 points.
This is the first year the NCAA Swimming Championships have used the shortcourse meters racing course as opposed to the 25-yard course.
