TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama Crimson Tide rallied for five runs in the lasttwo innings but fell a run short to the Kentucky Wildcats 11-10 Sunday atSewell-Thomas Stadium.
Alabama (15-6, 2-1 SEC) scored four runs in the eighth and one inthe ninth. The Wildcats (16-2, 1-2 SEC) escaped with the win by retiring BenKing on a flyout to right field to end the game. Alabama had runners onsecond and third at the time of the final out.
Breck Price got the final three outs for the Wildcats to get histhird save of the season. The win went to Joseph Blanton (3-0). Blantonpitched 4 2/3 innings, the longest outing of any of Kentucky’s pitchers.
Jason Gingrich (1-1) took the loss for Alabama. He pitched 1 2/3innings and gave up three runs. Gingrich was one of three Alabama pitchersto pitch in the fifth inning. Kentucky scored five runs in the fifth tobreak a 4-4 tie.
The Wildcats scored two more in the seventh on a home run by JohnWilson to go up 11-5. Alabama then rallied to close the gap to one.
Sam Bozanich hit his six home run of the season for the Crimson Tideand finished with three hits and two RBIs. Darren Wood had a base hit toextend his hitting streak to a career-best eight games. Brent Boyd had twohits and scored twice and Jeremy Brown had two hits and knocked two in.
Alabama won two of the three games against Kentucky to win theseries. The Crimson Tide’s next game is Wednesday at 7 p.m. against theSouth Alabama Jaguars.
