LEXINGTON, KY. – The 2000 NCAA Men’s Swimming participants were announced today and MaconWhite and Shaun Zitani of the University of Kentucky men’s swimming teamwill represent the squad at the meet in Minneapolis, Minn., March 23-25.

“We’re very happy Macon and Shaun made it,” UK coach Gary Conelly said.”We are a little disappointed because because we felt like we were on theedge of getting a relay there. We are pretty confident that Clayton (Moss),one of our divers, will make it, so that’ll be three going to the meetwhich will be good for us.”

White, who just missed the NCAA automatic in the 200 freestyle by threeone-hundredths, will compete in the 200-meter and the 400-meter freestyleevents. The Huntington, W. Va., native is seeded eighth in the 200freestyle and 22nd in the 400 freestyle. At the 1999 NCAA meet, White justmissed qualifying for the consolation after a swim off in the 200 freestyle.

Zitani, the only swimmer on the men’s squad to meet qualify for the meetautomatically, met the NCAA “A” cut in the 50 freestyle with a time of19.75. Zitani will also swim the 100 freestyle and 100 butterfly. He isseeded 13th in the 50 freestyle, 25th in the 100 butterfly, and 37th in the100 freestyle.

Divers for the meet will be selected based on performance at the NCAA Zone”B” Diving Championships, being held this weekend at the James E. MartinAquatic Center on the campus of Auburn University.
