Johnson, Spencer and Thomas each set personal bests.
LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 4, 2000) — The University of Kentucky Track and Field team sent seven members tolast-chance meets this weekend in an attempt to record coveted provisionalor automatic qualifying marks for entrance into the NCAA Indoor Championships.
On Saturday, March 4, at the Alex Wilson Invitational at Notre Dame,freshmen Chad Johnson, Hunter Spencer and Thomas Morgan each completed the800 Meters in season and personal best times. Though Johnson and Spencercrossed the finish line in 1:50.58 and 1:50.90, respectively, neither timemet the NCAA provisional qualifying standard of 1:50.00.
At the Indiana USATF Championships on Friday, March 3, the Cats had twosecond-place finishes and a third-place finish. Janet Crawford grabbedthird in the women’s high jump with a leap of 5-08.00, while junior ChrisDaniel got a runner-up mark in the pole vault and Andrew VanderWagengrabbed second in the men’s high jump. However, none of the marks werequalifying.
The indoor season wraps up next weekend, March 10-11, at the NCAA IndoorChampionships in Fayetteville, Ark. Three athletes who earned provisionalqualifying marks earlier this season could represent UK: Matt Kavanagh inthe 35-pound weight throw, Andrew VanderWagen in the high jump and ShevanThreats in the triple jump.
