The University of Kentucky men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams willtravel to Auburn University to participate in the 2000 Southeastern ConferenceSwimming & Diving Championships beginning on Wednesday, Feb. 16.

Preliminaries for the women’s 1-meter diving and the men’s 3-meter divingevents will begin at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, with the finals for both divingevents and the men’s and women’s 200-yard freestyle and 200 medley relays setfor 7 p.m.

The four-day meet at the James E. Martin Aquatic Center includes three fulldays of competition starting Thursday morning. Preliminaries Thursday, Fridayand Saturday, will begin at 10:30 a.m. (EST) and the finals at 7:30 p.m. Thetop 16 qualifiers in each event will qualify to swim in finals.

The UK women’s squad, who went undefeated this year at 7-0, finishedthird overall at the 1999 SEC Championships, the highest finish for the womenin school history. The UK men’s team, who finished with a 4-2 dual meet recordthis season, will be looking to climb up the standings after an eighth placefinish in 1999.

“We are excited about the SEC Championships because of the season we had thisyear,” UK coach Gary Conelly said. “The swimmers and divers looked really goodduring workouts the last couple of days, so it should be a great meet for us.”Complete meet results can be found on the internet at www.secsports.com orwww.auburn.edu/athletics/secswimming.
