LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky gymnastics team took second-place at its first quad-meet of the season versus No. 7 Nebraska, Illinois and James Madison. The GymKats (3-5, 1-2 SEC) finished with a 194.500, their highest score of the season. Nebraska edged out the Kats with a 195.150, while Illinois took third with a 194.000 and James Madison finished with a 187.225.

Senior Krissy Hoeferlin posted her best all-around score of the season with a 39.150, which included a season-high 9.825 on floor. Freshman Julia Gore finished fifth overall with a final tally of 38.550.

The Kats finished the floor exercise with a 49.050, tying their third-highest score in school history. Freshman Mindy Smith set a season- and career-high on the floor exercise with a 9.900 to lead all competitors in the event. Senior Mila Chitwood finished second in the event with a 9.875, also a season high.

Sophomore Katie Toups returned to the lineup this week following a two-week absence due to injury. Toups came up big for the Kats on the uneven bars posting a 9.800, while sophomore Jessie Lemp led Kentucky with a 9.850.

“I’m very proud for many reasons,” Coach Leah Little said. “We put these athletes through the hardest week of practice that they’ve ever been through and it paid off. They came out tonight, pushed through and proved to themselves that they are tougher than they thought.”

The GymKats are back in action on Saturday, Feb. 19, when they head to Raleigh, N.C. to face the North Carolina State Wolfpack at 7:00 p.m.
