LEXINGTON, Ky. – Andrew VanderWagen jumped 7-01.00 in the high jumpSaturday, Feb. 5 at the Rod McCravy Memorial Classic to provisionallyqualify for NCAA competition. His height was good for first place and set apersonal best.

The high jump was also the scene for Matt Smotherman’s second place leapof 6-10.25. Not only was this a personal best for Smotherman, it also tiedthe UK freshman high jump record.

Other first-place finishers for UK included Janet Crawford in the highjump, Michelle Williams in the 60-meter hurdles, Roshell Russell in the400-meter dash, and Shevan Threats in the long jump and the triple jump.Threats’ win in the long jump was her fifth consecutive.

“We definitely had some bright spots today,” Head Coach Don Weber said.”Roshell had a good day with her win in the 400 and second in the 200.These meets just lead up to the championships. We want to keep gettingbetter as we make our way there. We are doing that.”

The Wildcats are steadily improving as the indoor season begins to winddown. This weekend they set a total of 17 season bests, which included sixpersonal bests.

Chad Johnson, Hunter Spencer and Thomas Morgan each notched personal bestsin the 800-meter run by finishing second, third and seventh, respectively.Johnson crossed the line in 1:51.85, while Spencer came in at 1:52.04 andMorgan at 1:53.15. Elizabeth Kettredge reached 9-09.25 in the pole vault totop her previous best by 3.25 inches.

The Wildcats return to action next weekend as they travel to Blacksburg,Va., for the Virginia Tech Invitational on Feb. 11-12. This will be UK’slast indoor meet before the SEC Championships on Feb. 26-27.
