LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky men’s tennis team finished the first day of the Indiana Winter Invitational with six of the seven singles matches ending in UK victories.
Johan Hesoun, ranked No. 48 in the nation, defeated Eric Jackson of North Carolina State, 6-4, 7-6. After dropping his first set, Wildcat Johan Grunditz rebounded by defeating Keith Salmon (NC State), 2-6, 7-5, 7-6. The Cats only loss came when NC State’s Jeff Smith outlasted Elliot Datlow in three sets, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.
In doubles action, the No. 40 doubles pair of Johan Hesoun and Gustav Pousette was upset. The duo lost to Eric Jackson and Keith Salmon, 8-5. The Cats lone doubles win was when Johan Grunditz and Edo Bowono beat Brad Kilgore and Brian Cowman, 8-3.
Kentucky will continue in the tournament Saturday at 9:00 at the Indiana University Tennis Center in Bloomington, Ind.
