The University of Kentucky men’s and women’s swimming and diving teamseach captured dual meet victories on Saturday over the University ofCincinnati on Senior Day.

Like the week before against LSU, the UK men’s squad (4-2) captured thefinal event of the meet, the 800-yard freestyle relay, to win the meet by ascore of 162-151. The win over the Bearcats clinched a winning season forthe UK men’s team, who have won their last three consecutive meets.

Junior Shaun Zitani led the men’s team with two victories on the day,including a blistering time of 20.14 to win the 50 freestyle. Zitani’stime, his best of the season, met the NCAA provisional time standard andthe 2000 U.S. Olympic Trial cut. He also won the 100 freestyle and earned asecond place finish in the 100 butterfly.

Macon White won the 200 freestyle and placed second in the 100 and 500freestyles, while anchoring UK’s winning 800 freestyle relay.

Freshman diver Clayton Moss won the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events,while sophomore Aaron Kirkpatrick placed second on both events.

The UK women’s team wrapped up an undefeated season, going 7-0, with aconvincing 173-143 win over Cincinnati. This is the first time in thehistory of UK swimming and diving that the women’s team has finished theseason undefeated.

Sophomore Carolyn Rader led the Cats with victories in the 500 freestyleand the 100 and 200 butterflies. The Grafton, Va., native also claimed asecond-place finish in the 400 individual medley. Rader’s time of 2:01.56in the 200 butterfly met the NCAA provisional time standard.

Junior standout Melissa Olson won the 200 and 400 individual medleys andplaced second in the 100 backstroke. Olson’s time of 4:18.70 in the 400I.M. missed the NCAA automatic qualifying time by less than two seconds.

Sprint freestyler Annabel Kosten captured the 50 and 200 freestyles, whilediver Michelle Glowatch notched a pair of second place finishes on the1-meter and 3-meter diving events.

“I’m happy we won, but I’m really with the way we are swimming,” UK coachGary Conelly said. “If we get any more drops on our times, we are going tobe very tough at the Southeastern Conference Championships next month.”
