LEXINGTON, Kty. – The University of Kentucky men’s and women’s swimming and diving team willhost the Cincinnati Bearcats on Saturday, Jan. 29, at the Lancaster AquaticCenter where the Cats will honor its seven seniors on Senior Day.
The dual meet, originally set for a 1 p.m. start, will be a split-sessionmeet with the morning session beginning at 11 a.m. and the afternoonsession at 6 p.m. It is not a prelim-final format, but rather two differentsessions. Senior Day ceremonies will begin prior to the start of themorning session.
“Saturday will be a very special day for our seniors because it is theirlast meet here at Kentucky,” coach Gary Conelly said. “It is also animportant meet since it is our last competition before the SoutheasternConference Championships, so we will be looking to see how the team swimsin the morning and afternoon sessions.”
The UK men’s and women’s squads are coming off two exciting wins over theLSU Tigers last weekend. The men (3-2) captured the final relay of the meetto win, 122-121, over the visiting Tigers. It marked the first time the UKmen’s team had ever defeated LSU in a dual meet. The women’s team (6-0)finished first and second in the final relay, en route to a 124-118 winover LSU.
Junior Shaun Zitani was named the SEC Men’s Swimmer of the Week onWednesday by the league office, the second consecutive week a member of themen’s team has won the award. Last week, Macon White was honored by the SEC.
