LEXINGTON, Kty. — The University of Kentucky women’s basketball team will make itsfinal road trip of the ’90s when it travels to Cincinnati, Ohio onWednesday, Dec. 22 to face the Cincinnati Bearcats at 7:30 p.m. in theShoemaker Center.
The Wildcats (5-3) look to bounce back after shooting aseason-low 21.5 percent from the floor versus No. 12 Purdue on Saturday.UK lost, 48-40, in the first collegiate game in the new ConsecoFieldhouse in Indianapolis, Ind. Lexington native Erica Jackson led inscoring and rebounding versus the Boilermakers with 15 points, eightboards and four steals. Both Jackson and junior forward Laura Meadowslead the Cats’ this season in overall scoring, averaging 12.9 points pergame.
Like Kentucky, Cincinnati enters Wednesday’s game with a 5-3overall record. The Bearcats are looking for their fifth consecutivewin after defeating East Tennessee State on Friday, 76-54. UC is led bysenior forward Madinah Slaise and sophomore center Laura Wilder. Bothaverage in double figures this season with 16.6 and 12.5 points pergame, respectively.
“This team is very good,” UK Coach Bernadette Mattox said.”They will give us some looks similar to Purdue and we have to be readyto play in their house. They won their conference race last year andreturn some good players. Road games are always tough and we’ve got tobe ready to play.”
Kentucky leads the all-time series versus Cincinnati 15-3. TheCats have won the last three meetings between the teams, including a70-59 win last season. The Cats are 4-3 versus the Bearcats whenplaying in the Cincinnati.
Following the game on Wednesday the Wildcats will take a shortChristmas break before returning to face Ohio Valley Conference opponentTennessee-Martin on Tuesday, Dec. 28 at 7 p.m. in Memorial Coliseum.The Cats will play host to four straight home games beginning with theSkyhawks. UK will not travel again until Jan. 10 when it plays Floridain Gainesville.
