LEXINGTON, Ky. — The University of Kentucky women’s basketball travels toLynchburg, Va., to face the Liberty Lady Flames on Saturday, Dec. 11 at7 p.m. in the Vine Center.
The Cats (4-2) look to avenge last year’s four-point loss,80-76, in Lexington in the team’s first meeting. Despite a 10-pointhalftime lead, the Cats were outscored 44-30 in the second half. Libertywas paced by Big South Player of the Year Elena Kisseleva’s 22 points.
“Liberty has a great team back from last year and they haveadded a lot of talent,” UK Coach Bernadette Mattox said. “We’ve got tobe patient, not rush our shots and run our style of basketball.”
Liberty (4-3) returns four starters from last year’s squad thatfinished 21-8 overall and 9-1 in the Big South Conference. Three of thefour returning starters average double-figure scoring this season.Senior Sharon Wilkerson leads the Lady Flames with 15.6 points per gamewhile her twin sister Sarah Farley, who married her high schoolsweetheart last summer, averages 13.1 ppg. All-time Liberty leadingscorer Kisseleva adds 11.1 ppg.
Kentucky, fresh off a 62-52 win over New Mexico on Monday, isled by junior forward Laura Meadows who averages 15.2 points and 9.2rebounds per game. Also averaging in double digits is senior guardErica Jackson with 11.0 ppg.
