LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky women’s basketball team travels toOxford, Ohio on Monday, Nov. 22 where it will play the RedHawks of Miamiat 7 p.m. in their home opener in Millett Hall.
UK enters Monday’s game with 1-0 record after defeating AustinPeay in its season opener on Friday (88-52) in Clarksville, Tenn. TheCats are looking for their fourth straight win over the RedHawks after a76-56 victory last season in Lexington. Miami hasn’t beaten UK since a71-62 decision on Dec. 23, 1995. UK is 2-1 versus Miami in Oxford.
Five Wildcats average in double figures as junior forward LauraMeadows leads with 22 points per game. Forward LaTonya McDole, UK’ssecond leading scorer and rebounder, should also prove to be a forceoffensively. The 6-1 sophomore led the Cats in both preseasonexhibition games, netting 20 points versus Sweden and 21 points versusPremier Players and charted her first season double-double versus APSU,charting 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Following Monday’s game UK will then travel to Hartford, Conn.,where it faces preseason No.1 Connecticut in the first round of thewomen’s inaugural Coaches vs. Cancer Challenge on Wednesday, Nov. 24 at7 p.m. Old Dominion and Clemson will face off in the opening round at 5p.m. The championship game on Friday, Nov. 26 at 4 p.m. will betelevised live on ESPN2.
