GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The University of Kentucky volleyball team lost tothe fourth ranked Florida Lady Gators in straight sets (15-8, 16-2 and15-6) on Sunday at UF’s Stephen C. O’Connell Center.
Kentucky (13-12, 5-7 Southeastern) has now lost two straightSEC matches heading into its crucial home weekend series against Georgiaand South Carolina. The Cats currently hold a one game lead on UGAheading into the Friday night match-up between the two teams at UK’sMemorial Coliseum.
With the victory, Florida (23-2, 14-0 SEC) continued its leagueleading 19-match win streak and recorded its 14th straight SEC victory,marking its fifth consecutive undefeated conference season. The Gatorswere led on this occasion by 1998 SEC Player of the Year Jenny Manz, whorecorded a match-high 17 kills and hit at a .571 clip.
While the Cats played well against Florida earlier this seasonat home, UK seemed to have no answers for the potent Gator attack as UFhit .356 for the match. The usually efficient UK blocking was renderedhelpless by the Gators as the Cats recorded a season-low three blocks.
The Cats could not get untracked offensively either as no UKplayer recorded double-figures in kills. Freshman Kristen Batt led thesquad with eight kills while Terri Crabb recorded a team-high nine digs.Katie Eiserman moved closer to the all-time UK dig record as her fourdigs on Sunday give her 1,138 for her career. Two digs shy of the schoolrecord, the senior should move onto the top of the leaderboard earlyinto Friday’s Senior Night match against Georgia. The match will getunderway at 7 p.m.
