The University of Kentucky’s Carolina Mayorga and Sarah Witten advanced atthe UK Fall Invitational on Saturday, as the two topped Wildcat teammatesto reach to Sunday’s semifinals.
Mayorga topped UK’s Lauren Rookledge 6-4, 6-2 and Witten bested fellow Catfreshman Jill Buckley 7-6, 7-5. In the day’s other quarterfinals,Marshall’s Anna Mitina downed UK freshman Amy Trefethen 6-1, 7-5 andCincinnati’s Kara Molony defeated Kentucky’s Brooke Skeen 6-0, 6-3.
In doubles play, the UK tandems of Mayorga and Witten and Skeen and LeighBradwell reached Sunday’s doubles semis with two convincing wins. Mayorgaand Witten beat Cincinnati’s Jaime Stahl and Robin Rimland 8-2 and Skeenand Bradwell blasted Abilene Christian’s Sarah Taweel and Kasey Hawkins8-1. Kentucky’s Buckley also advanced in doubles action, teaming withTennessee’s Meiling Parks to best Karolina Pierko and Kelly Peller ofMarshall 8-5.
Play concludes Sunday at UK’s Boone Tennis Complex with semifinal playscheduled for 9:30 a.m. and finals set for 1:30 p.m. Admission is free.
