CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — The University of Kentucky men?s tennis team had a goodweekend at the Fighting Illini/First Federal Fall Invitational as threeWildcats posted three singles victories a piece. With UK?s top player Carlos Drada, No. 27 in the country, taking the weekendoff, the Cats other top players picked up the slack. Johan Grunditz was aperfect 3-0 while Edo Bawono and Gustav Pousette each won three of four. JohanHesoun was 2-1.
The three wins by Grunditz improved his record to 8-5 this fall. He had lostthree of his previous four matches.
?Our main guys played well this weekend,? said coach Dennis Emery. ?ButGrunditz really bore down and got himself back on track.?
Bawono moved to 8-7 on the fall after winning his first three matches atIllinois? Atkins Tennis Center before losing his final match to Danny Westermanof Wisconsin. Pousette is now 6-5 this fall.
The three-day tournament was the last tune-up for UK?s final fall event, theITA Rolex Regional Championships scheduled for Nov. 4-7, at the University ofGeorgia. In Athens, Ga., Drada and one or two of his fellow Cats will take thecourts against some of the top tennis talents in the southeast.
