FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The 19th-ranked University of Kentucky women’s soccerteam defeated the Arkansas Lady Razorbacks 4-1 Friday night. The victoryextended the Cats’ winning streak to 12 games.
UK (13-2-1, 7-1 SEC) scored three first-half goals and never looked backas the Cats’ clinched the third seed in the upcoming SoutheasternConference Tournament (Nov. 4-7).
Sophomore Suzie Ledzianowski opened the scoring for UK when she netted hersecond goal of the season at the 3:51 mark.
Forward Keri Boyce found the ball at the top of UA’s box and wentone-on-one with the Lady Razorbacks goalkeeper Megan Bals. The freshmanfired the ball past Bals to give UK a 2-0 lead with less than 25 minutesleft in the first half.
UK added its third goal of the half when Margo Hafer, returning to thelineup after missing the Cats’ last eight games, put her knee on teammateEmily Oetjen’s corner kick and in for her first goal of the season.
UA’s Heather Cato put the Lady Razorbacks on the board at the 55:57 markwhen she put a header in past UK keeper Beth Wells to avoid a shutout.
Annie Gage rounded out the scoring for UK with her twelfth goal ofthe season. Gage took a cross from Boyce and nailed aneight-yard shot as the Cats won their seventh straight SEC contest.
“We came out with a high level of intensity tonight and it showed,” UKcoach Warren Lipka said. “Suzie’s goal early in the first half helped usget into our attack mode and play the kind of game we wanted to play. Italso makes it easier when you get an early goal and can play with a lead.”
The Cats outshot the Lady Razorbacks 22-6, while UA took eight cornerkicks compared to three for UK.
UK returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 24, when the Cats travel to face LSU.The match begins at 3:00 p.m. (EST).
