LEXINGTON, Ky. – The 13th-ranked University of Kentucky women’s soccer team will travel totake on the Arkansas Lady Razorbacks Friday, Oct. 22, at 8 p.m. (EST).
UK (12-2-1, 6-1 SEC) captured its 11th consecutive win on Sunday, as theCats handed visiting Mississippi State a 2-0 loss. The victory over theBulldogs completed a sweep of the Mississippi based SEC teams last weekendfor UK.
“Anytime you hit the road in the SEC, it is always going to be a battle soyou have to be ready,” UK coach Warren Lipka said. “This is the finalweekend of conference play so Arkansas will be trying to fight their wayinto the (SEC) tournament. We need to be ready because they will be firedup knowing they have a chance to knock off one of the top teams in ourleague.”
Sophomore forward Annie Gage continues to be the catalyst for UK. TheWesterville, Ohio native, leads the Cats in goals (11), points (28), shots(53), and game-winning goals (5), career highs in all four categories. Shehas scored at least one point in nine of UK’s last 10 games. In those tengames, she has scored 10 goals and has four assists.
Goalkeeper Beth Wells has been tremendous between the posts as of late forthe Cats. Wells is tied for second in the SEC with a goals-against-averageof 0.756 and is tied for second with five shutouts.
Arkansas (7-8-0, 4-3) is led by forward Heather Cato. The sophomore fromVancouver, Wash., has scored a team-high six goals, two of which weregame-winners, and has taken 31 shots for the Lady Razorbacks.
UA keeper Megan Bals has 71 saves on the year while postingfour-and-a-half shutouts. UK leads the all-time series between the two schools, 3-2, including a 3-0victory over the over the Lady Razorbacks in 1997.
