LEXINGTON, Ky. – The 19th-ranked University of Kentucky women’s soccer team defeated theOle Miss Rebels 2-1 Friday night at the UK Soccer Complex.

UK (11-2-1, 5-1 SEC) outplayed the Rebels for most of the match, but theCats had to fight back after Ole Miss scored an early goal to take a 1-0 lead.

Ole Miss forward Bridget Brooks gave the Rebels (11-4-0, 4-2 SEC) an earlylead when she fired in a crossing pass from teammate Sarah Wong at the29:32 mark.

The Cats got on the board at the 56:17 mark when junior Jen Reese scoredher third goal of the season. Reese netted a 10-yard shot off a cross fromAimee Brown to tie the game at 1-1.

Junior midfielder Jaime Dellbringge then knocked in a ball directly infront of the goal off an Annie Gage corner kick to break a 1-1 tie, to giveUK its 10th consecutive victory.

Goalkeeper Beth Wells made a game-saving stop with just under 11 minutesremaining in the match. Regan Scanlon got free for Ole Miss and wentone-on-one with Wells. Scanlon fired a shot but Wells batted the ball downto preserve the game for the Cats and recorded one of her four saves.

“I give Ole Miss a lot of credit tonight,” UK coach Warren Lipka said.”They played hard and it was just a battle out there. We have got tocapitalize on chances like we had in the first half or we are going to havefight back every time.”

UK outshot the Rebels 15-7, while the Cats took 12 corner kicks comparedto just two for the Rebels.

UK returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 17, when the Cats play host to theMississippi State Bulldogs at the UK Soccer Complex. The match begins at1:00 p.m.
