LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky men’s soccer team will put its 3-0 conferencerecord on the line Friday, when the Cats host MAC rival Buffalo at the UKSoccer Complex.
The Cats (8-3) are riding a four-match win streak, but the Bulls (9-3-1)are on a streak of their own, winning five straight. While the Cats aretied atop the MAC standings, Buffalo sits just one loss back at 2-1. TheBulls’ only conference loss came against MAC co-leader Akron, a 1-0 loss inBuffalo.
The match will also feature a showdown between the league’s top scorer andgoalkeeper. UB’s Steve Butcher leads the MAC with 11 goals and has foundthe nets in his last four matches, while UK keeper Brian O’Leary, theconference Player of the Week, is riding a 398-minute shutout streak in MACmatches.
The Cats shut down Butcher and the Bulls last season in Buffalo, winning4-2 in the first meeting between the two schools.
“This is a huge conference match for us,” UK Coach Ian Collins said.”Buffalo is on a roll and can score a lot of goals. Our guys will have tobe ready for a war.”
In a change from previously released schedules, kickoff is now set for 4p.m. Friday is also Youth Soccer Day with all children wearing soccerjerseys being admitted for only $1.
