LEXINGTON, Kty. – For an unprecedented third consecutive week, a member of the UK women’ssoccer team has been named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week.Annie Gage, a sophomore forward, was named the SEC Player of the Week todayby the SEC office. Also, the National Soccer Coaches Association of Americareleased its weekly top-25 poll today and UK jumped five spots to No. 19after its ninth straight win on Sunday.
On Sept. 27, Gage was honored as the league’s top player of the week whilefreshman Keri Boyce received the honor last week. This is the first time inthe history of SEC soccer that one school has received Player of the Weekhonors three consecutive times.
“Annie has played great for us all season,” UK coach Warren Lipka said.”Coming off a torn ACL last year, she hasn’t lost a step and is one of ourleaders on the field. It’s nice for our players to be recognized for theiraccomplishments but the individual honors reflect on the success of ourteam as well.”
Gage scored three goals, two of which were game-winning goals, in theCats’ two wins last week. On Friday, she scored the game’s only goal as theCats defeated Cincinnati 1-0. In UK’s 5-2 victory over Vanderbilt onSunday, Gage nailed a penalty kick to give UK a 2-1 lead in the first halfand later broke a 2-2 tie to give the Cats their school-record ninthconsecutive win. She took nine shots in the match, tying the UK schoolrecord for shots in a game.
The Westerville, Ohio native has scored six goals in the Cats’ last fivegames. Gage leads UK (10-2-1, 4-1 SEC) in goals scored with 10 and inpoints with 25. She needs two goals to tie the UK record for goals scoredin a single season.
With the Cats ranked 19th, it’s the highest ranking for a UK women’ssoccer team in the program’s eight year history. The Cats are ranked thirdin the NSCAA Great Lakes Region top-10 poll behind Notre Dame and Michigan.

UK will play host to the Ole Miss Rebels on Friday, Oct. 15, at the UKSoccer Complex and the match will be televised live by Fox Sports South.The game time has been changed to 7:30 p.m.
Freshman goalkeeper Jo Fletcher will be sidelined for the remainder of theseason with a broken right hand. The injury was originally diagnosed as asprain but x-rays revealed a broken bone.
