Wildcats tie school record with seventh-straight victory.
LAS VEGAS (Oct. 3, 1999) — The 21st-ranked University ofKentucky women’s soccer team defeated SanDiego State 3-2 in Las Vegas, Nev., on Sundaynight to earn its seventh consecutive win, tying theschool record.
Freshman forward Keri Boyce netted a 10-yardshot into the top of the net at the 76:42, giving UK(8-2-1, 3-1 SEC) a 3-2 victory over the Aztecs. The goal was Boyce’ssecond game-winning goal of the weekend.
The Cats roared out to 2-0 lead when junior Deanna Stayton put a headerinto the left side of the net off assists from Elizabeth Ramsey and EmilyOetjen at the 26:18 mark. Forward Annie Gage scored at the 30:02 markfrom 10-yards out when she fired a ball into the left corner of the net.
The Aztecs (7-4) stormed back when defender Bethany Robinson putSDSU on the board with four seconds left in the first half. Kelly Grogg’scorner kick found Robinson in front of the Cats’ net and put the ball past UKgoalkeeper Beth Wells.
At the 52:38 mark, SDSU tied the game when Lori La Couriere put in aheader from 10-yards out.
UK outshot the Aztecs 12 to seven, while Wells recorded three saves for theCats.
“This was a huge win for us today,” UK coach Warren Lipka said. “The heatwore us down so we had to look to our bench to step up with some qualityminutes and they really came through. Basically, we just found a way to wintoday.”
UK returns to action on Friday, Oct. 8, when they travel to Cincinnati totake on the Bearcats at Meyers Field.
