LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky men’s soccer team will look to snap athree-match slide on Friday when the Cats open Mid-American Conference playagainst the Marshall Thundering Herd at the UK Soccer Complex.
UK (4-3, 0-0 MAC) is coming off a series of one-goal losses to No. 4 CalState Fullerton, Western Kentucky and No. 15 Cincinnati in which the Catsmanaged only one goal. The scoring drought is a dramatic contrast to theCats’ first four matches, all wins, when UK exploded for 11 goals.
“Hopefully we’ll get back on the right track this weekend,” UK Coach IanCollins said. “We’ve had 40 shots in three games and only one goal – that’sjust unlucky. I expect our guys to score some goals on Friday.”
Marshall currently stands at 3-5-1, but sits in second place in theconference with a 1-0-1 MAC mark.
Kentucky kicks off conference action against the Herd for the secondconsecutive year. UK scored a thrilling 2-1 overtime win over Marshall inHuntington last Oct. 2 during the Cats’ school-record, seven-match winstreak and en route their runner-up finish in the conference. The Wildcatsfinished the ’98 campaign with a 7-1 league mark and have gone 12-3 in theMAC over the last two seasons.
