LEXINGTON, Ky. – The 21st-ranked University of Kentucky women’s soccer team hits the roadthis weekend, traveling to Nevada Las Vegas to play in the UNLV RebelTournament. The Cats will face host UNLV on Friday, Oct. 1, at 10 p.m. (EST).
UK (6-2-1, 2-1 SEC), on a five-game winning streak, is coming off a 4-1upset victory over 12th-ranked Georgia on Sunday. The Cats are tied forsecond place in the SEC Eastern Division, while moving up to third in thelatest Great Lakes Regional poll.
“We are going to be tested this weekend against two really good teams inUNLV and San Diego State (UK’s opponent on Sunday). UNLV has not lost athome this season so we are in for a battle Friday night.”
UNLV (5-3-1) is on a three-game winning streak after defeating Cal-StateNorthridge 2-1 in overtime. Forward Janae Sims leads the Rebels attack with11 points this season. Sims has scored a team-high five goals.
This will be the first meeting between the two schools.
The honors continued to pour in for sophomore forward Annie Gage this weekwhen she was named to the Soccer America Team of the Week announced today.On Monday, Gage was named the SEC Player of the Week after scoring twogoals and tallying an assist last week in UK’s 3-0 victory over Tennesseeand the Cats’ win over Georgia.
“Annie has been outstanding for us this season after sitting out all oflast year with a torn ACL,” Lipka said. “Her stellar play reflects on ourteam as well.”
