The University of Kentucky women’s soccer team captured its fourth straightvictory Friday night as the Wildcats downed the visiting Tennessee LadyVolunteers 3-0.
UK (5-2-1, 2-1 SEC) was led by junior Jaime Dellbringge who scored a goaland added an assist in her first start of the season for the Cats. The Cats erupted for three goals in the second half after missing onseveral scoring opportunities in the first half, while outshooting the LadyVols (3-5, 2-1), nine to three.
Freshman Keri Boyce opened the scoring for UK at the 47:32 mark when shenetted an eight-yard shot into the right corner of the goal on a deflectionby UT goalkeeper Ellen Dean. The goal was Boyce’s fourth of the year.Midfielder Jen Reese scored her first goal of the season on a one-on-onebreakway at the 54:00 mark off an assist from Dellbringge. Dellbringge netted a header in the left corner of the net off a free kick.Annie Gage assisted on Dellbringge’s second goal of the season.
UK goalkeeper Beth Wells was brilliant in pitching her second shutout ofthe season. Wells recorded eight saves including a diving stop on AllisonCampbell’s penalty kick for the Lady Vols with less than four minutesremaining in the match.
“We weren’t able to capitalize on several scoring chances in the firsthalf, but we came out in the second half and put the ball in the net,” UKcoach Warren Lipka said. “It’s always big when you beat an SEC team but westill have a long way to go. We keep getting better each time we touch thefield.”
UK returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 26, when the Cats play host to the12th-ranked Georgia Bulldogs at the UK Soccer Complex. The match will beginat 1 p.m.
