IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Kentucky men?s golf team stands in 13th place out of a fieldof 17 after scoring a team total of 600 strokes through Saturday?s first tworounds of play at the Hawkeye Intercollegiate in Iowa City, Iowa. KentUniversity is the current team leader after scoring a 571.

Sophomore Philip Schardein paced the Cats by shooting a 147 (75-72) onSaturday. Senior Ron Layman was the only other UK golfer to break 150 as heposted a 149 (76-73). The overall leader is Northern Illinois? Tim Countrymanwho recorded a 138 (69-69).

The tournament will conclude tomorrow with a final round of 18 holes as theWildcats look to improve their position in the team?s first outing of the1999-2000 season.
