LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Wildcats started their 1999 season off right on Wednesday night, defeatingEastern Kentucky 3-1 at Memorial Coliseum. The Cats and Lady Colonels split thefirst two games of the match, 15-12 and 8-15, but UK erupted to win the finaltwo games 15-6 and 15-5, respectively.

UK and EKU looked like squads playing their first official games of the seasonas the two teams combined for 33 hitting errors through the first two games.

The Cats came out of the break between the second and third sets rejuvenatedand clicking on all cylinders offensively. UK pounded out a .393 hittingpercentage to steal the third game and bettered that in the fourth with a .444percentage. The Wildcats committed only two hitting errors as they closed outthe match in the fourth game.

UK coach Jona Braden has said numerous times that she expects her four seniorsto lead this team in 1999 and all four took advantage of their firstopportunity. Katie Eiserman led the way for the Cats with 13 kills and a .357hitting percentage. Megan Weiskircher also played a strong game with 10 killswhile hitting at a .471 clip. Setter Terri Crabb, playing in her first gamesince Sept. 30, 1997, made a valiant comeback as she served up 36 assists andcontributed five kills. Jaclyn Homan also made a big contribution with ninekills and five total blocks.

The Cats will leave tomorrow for Blacksburg, Va. and their first roadtrip of the season, the Virginia Tech Invitational where UK will play threegames in two days against Virginia Tech, Northern Illinois and Villanova. Thenext home match for the Wildcats is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 14 againstWestern Kentucky at 7 p.m.
