LEXINGTON, Ky. — The University of Kentucky women’s soccer team begins its quest for aleague and tournament crown on Sunday, Aug. 29, when its opens the 1999regular season against Evansville. The match at the UK Soccer Complexbegins at 2 p.m.

UK is 3-3 in six previous meeting with the Purple Aces. The two teamsplayed in Evansville last season with the Wildcats coming away with a 2-0victory.

“I feel like we are prepared for our first match this weekend,” UK headcoach Warren Lipka said. “Evansville will be a good test to see where weare early in our season.”

UK is coming off a 1-0 triumph against Wright State last Sunday. FreshmanElizabeth Ramsey scored the game’s only goal in the second half.The Wildcats, who finished the season 9-9-3 last year and earned a berth inthe NCAA Tournament, are led by senior forward Allison Peppers andsophomore midfielder Susan Ledzianowski. Peppers was an All-SEC selectionlast season and has started 63 of 64 games during her UK career. Lastseason, Ledzianowski was a major contributor, scoring three goals andleading the Cats with five assists.

Ranked 10th in the preseason Great Lakes Region Top 10, Evansville (1-0)scored a 1-0 victory over Wright State in the season opener for the PurpleAces on Friday.

Evansville returns eight starters from a team that advanced to the NCAAtournament last season, led by senior forward Jennifer Lembeck. Lembecktallied 12 goals and five assists in 1998.
