Wildcats Practice Twice, Third on the Way: The Kentucky footballteam practiced for two hours Wednesday morning and Wednesday afternoonat the Nutter Training Center. The Wildcats are slated for a one-hourworkout Wednesday night at Commonwealth Stadium.

Junior kicker Seth Hanson (strained quadriceps), freshman widereceiver Derek Abney (strained hamstring), and freshman wide receiverErnest Simms (strained groin) missed Wednesday’s practices and arelisted as day-to-day.

Sophomore kicker Marc Samuel continues to kick well in Hanson’sabsence, making most of his field goal attempts during the team periods. With Hanson expected to return soon, the coaching staff will have tochoose between the two.

“Coach (Claude) Bassett has worked with Marc and he hasimproved,” Coach Hal Mumme said. “We’ll evaluate them when Seth getsback. Marc will have to beat him out to get the job because Seth hasthe game experience and has made a lot of big kicks for us.”

Mumme also made a point of praising senior running back LeeWesley, who returned to offense recently after spending the last twoyears at linebacker.

“Lee’s doing a bang-up job. He’s really looking good,” Mummesaid. “When we got here we had to move him to defense because we had sofew players. The only way we could have let him play offense two yearsago was to clone him.”

Parrot Heads Minus One: Hal Mumme, an enthusiastic Jimmy Buffettfan, also was asked if he planned to go the singer’s upcoming concertsin Cincinnati.

“I would dearly love to go, but we plan to practice thisweekend. Jimmy will have to get along without me. I’m sure they’llmiss me among the 38,000 fans,” Mumme joked.
